The 18th century bound manuscripts include copies of individual literary and historical works, including plays, fiction, biographies and travel narratives; commonplace books and diaries; religious and theological material, including sermons and sermon notes, prayers, meditations and devotionals, and sectarian documents; scientific and practical treatises, including works on military tactics, astronomy, and navigation; letterbooks, account books, inventories of libraries, and other personal papers; and scrapbooks and anthologies. They are particularly strong in commonplace books; poetry, both single works and collections; diaries, especially travel diaries and descriptions by individuals on the Grand Tour; and sermons and private devotions.
